Dr. Gayle Cosby knows the Indianapolis Public Schools in and out. She attended IPS from kindergarten through high school, attending several schools including Broad Ripple and Arsenal Technical High School.
She started her career as a teacher in IPS elementary schools and served as an IPS board member from 2012-2016.
Having attending, taught in, and served on the board of Indiana Public Schools, she utilized her depth and breadth of experience in and knowledge of the public school system to study Urban Education Studies at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. She successfully defended her dissertation, “Bought But Not Sold Out: A Critical Autoethnography of a Public School Board Member in the Neoliberal Turn,” and earned her PhD in 2022. She previously earned an MA in Teaching at Marian University in 2009.
Dr. Cosby has three children, trains new teachers as Assistant Professor of Education at Ivy Tech Community College’s School of Education, and was recently elected as Commissioner of IPS Board District 2.
